Since 1946, the name Fender has become synonymous with all things rock 'n' roll: from Buddy Holly to Jimi Hendrix to Eric Clapton to Kurt Cobain and everything in between. Notable Telecaster players include Muddy Waters; Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones; Jimmy Page (on Led Zeppelin's studio recordings); Andy Summers of the Police; Jonny Greenwood, Thom Yorke and Ed O'Brien of Radiohead; Prince; Bruce Springsteen; Roy Buchanan; and The Edge of U2 has also begun to use a Telecaster on a regular basis.

1972 was a magical year for the Telecaster guitar. With several new designs, the Telecaster guitar was available with more options than ever before. The American Vintage '72 Tele Thinline features a warmer and rounder, semi-hollow ash body, "C"-shape maple neck, Bullet truss rod, '70s vintage hardtail strings-through Strat bridge, three-bolt neckplate, and two Fender "Wide Range" humbucking pickups. The American Vintage '72 Thinline Tele has a sound all it own, built to vintage specs.
