Replacing the traditional shape of the Les Paul in 1961 in an attempt to new and edgy, the SG quickly became a model of it's own. Used by many rock legends of the last century including Tony Iommi and Angus Young the SG has a firmly routed place in Rock'N' Roll History.
The mid - late 60s saw demand for students and beginners who couldn't quite afford a top end electric guitar. Juniors, Specials and Melody Makers were all simpler versions of the classic SG design. Coming with many different finishes and pickup combinations, P90s were and interesting choice for a traditionally humbuckerd guitar. Providing openness and sparkle that humbuckers could not, these lower end Gibson's soon became as popular as the higher end models.
The Gibson Custom shop have painstakingly recreated every detail of a 1961 Gibson SG special with this outstanding guitar. From period correct contours to nitro finish that has been given a 'faded' cherry colour to emulate the natural fading of the dye used at the time. Period correct buttons tuners and logo are historically accurate appointments that really ad to the cool factor!
This guitar has recently had to have a truss rod replaced as the original gave out. This has been professionally done. Apart from the binding and truss rod, the guitar is completely original, exactly as it would have left the factory.
It weighs 6.73lbs and rings like a bell. It's been fully set up and comes with all it's documents and Gibson custom shop hard case.
